Celebrating Women’s History Month: Inspiring Stories Throughout The Boldt Group

As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we are proud to highlight the incredible journeys and achievements of four remarkable women at Boldt. Their stories reflect resilience, dedication and a passion for excellence in their respective fields.

Makayla Oei: Makayla Oei’s career in construction began at the University of California Davis Medical Center, starting at an administrative level. Over the past 18 years, she has advanced to become the Director of Project Development at Boldt. Reflecting on her journey, she considers it a successful one, driven by curiosity and genuine care for her work and colleagues. Makayla has embraced opportunities and has been fortunate to work with amazing people who pushed her to grow and learn.

How do you see the role of women evolving in the construction industry during the next decade?

“I believe we’ll see more women stepping into various roles, from skilled trades to project managers and executives. It’s inspiring to think about the growing number of women who will be breaking barriers and taking on leadership positions. I’m excited about the future and the role women will play in transforming the construction industry. It’s a journey I’m proud to be a part of, and I can’t wait to see what’s next.”

Ghia Reinhard: With more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications within the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) industry, Ghia Reinhard has collaborated with a diverse group of professionals to create impactful communication campaigns and technical proposals. Her efforts have promoted AEC corporate brands both locally and internationally.

What career project or accomplishment are you particularly proud of?

“For a long time, I wished I had been introduced to the construction industry and trades at a much earlier age. This inspired me to organize STEAM/STEM programs for young students, which I found incredibly rewarding. By partnering with professionals in the AEC industry and educators, we provided hands-on learning experiences that built confidence and inspired creativity. These programs exposed students to the AEC fields, broadening their understanding of the diverse career paths available to them.”

Tetiana Chehorka: Born and raised in Ukraine, Tetiana Chehorka comes from a family of engineers. Her passion for drawing and decorating led her to dream of becoming an architect, but she ultimately became a mathematician. This background equipped her with skills in complex calculations, time management and risk estimation that are crucial in architecture and construction. After owning a small prefabrication construction company in Ukraine, Tetiana moved to the United States and joined BILDT as a project engineer, immersing herself in modular construction.

How do you believe your work has impacted the construction industry or your community?

“If we build a clinic or hospital, it saves lives. If we build a school or college, it gives an opportunity for education. If we build a mall, pharmacy or grocery store, it increases the quality of life in the local community. Building a museum or theatre develops community culture and so on. When I am involved in a project, I have the feeling that I am helping make this world a better place.”

Katie Patterson: Raised in the heartland of Indiana, Katie Patterson went to school at Indiana University – Indianapolis, earning a degree in event management with a specialty in sports tourism and special events. After 10 years in the event space, she needed a change of scenery and set her sights on administrative and support services. She has been with BILDT since November and looks forwards to continuing her newest chapter.

What advice would you give young women considering a career in construction?

“Do it! Having worked in the sports industry at the beginning of my career, I was familiar with the challenges that came with entering a male dominated industry. I’ve seen it all and believe the most successful teams have every side of the spectrum. Your experience is what you make it. If you believe in the work and yourself, everything else is just noise. So, take the step, because you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

These inspiring stories are a testament to the strength and resilience of women in the construction industry. We are proud to celebrate their journeys and look forward to their continued success.
